Another con report! And, right now...Himecchi has my camera....^^; I have more pictures than her, considering we ended up mainly using my camera instead of hers, lol. But, while I'm waiting for Zos Kias pages to get scanned (I actually got both of them done by Saturday, but of course...being in NC does pose a bit of a problem for that, lol). Well, onto the report!
Thursday-precon: Well, after spending over a week getting stuff ready for Artist Alley and then all Thursday packing things into the van, we left for the con at around 10 PM. We had to wait for Himecchi to get off work, but fortuantely, most of her stuff was already packed and we were off on I-65. Maaaan was that a long drive! To help alleviate stop times though, Urd-chan FINALLY took advantage of the fact that both Himecchi and I have our liscenes...and, ya know what...I got pulled over in Ohio ;_; I got only a verbal warning, and then the cop was talking about going to NC with us...but still. I was sooo freaked out (that's prolly why he went easy on me ^^;). There's a first time for everything though...I'm not used to loooong stretches of highway like that. Or Urd-chan's van. I'm used to my car, the roads around my house and to school, highways up to Mitsuwa and Troy, MI. And yes, they are different! Well, finally after being on the road for over 12 hours...we managed to get into Durham almost exactly at 1. Go figure.
Friday- Cosplay: Natasha (Zos Kias) Panel: InuYasha I was so wiped by the time we got there, but of course, I don't go to sleep that easily. So, we ran and got ourselves registered, which took no time. Strangely enough, their registration is in a tent outside. It was....odd...>.> Well, took us no time to do that and then we hit the AA...Aaaah...I love rude cons like this. Well, unfortuantely, despite everything, we didn't manage to get our table. It was really irritating actually considering all the time I spent getting things ready >< It wasn't all that terrible though, despite all the money that we lost...having the free time I did though, I went into some autograph sessions with Urd-chan, just cause. I got people to sign my book and ya know what...I'm not even sure who they all are! A ha ha ha! I got Kara Edwards, Kyle Herbert, Ryuusei Nakao, and Watanabe Kumiko. I really really wanted Kamiya Akira's, and Kusao Takeshi..but the former didn't even have a session, and Kusao canceled out...Of course, Vic and Caitlin were there, again, but I have their autographs too many times and I mean, both of them even came over and said 'hi' to me when I was just sitting there, lol. Oh, Michiko Suwa was also there again, but I had him sign my vol 11 of Meitantei Conan last year, so why would I need it again? I wanted Kamiya to sign the same page, but ah well. Maybe next year...? If there is a next year. >.> It's moving to Raleigh...which is like, 10 more minutes, lol. After that was the first of our three panels for the weekend. I ended up hitting the dealer's room first day and bought a Niece figure to go with my Deedlit one...but, not much really happened. Someone pulled a fire alarm...but it didn't last long. I took lots of pictures, was really tired, and ended up going to sleep after we ordered our pasta and ate. In fact, I don't think it was even 10 yet, lol.
Saturday- Costume: Natasha (Zos Kias) Got up at like 8 to do things. And, by things...I mean absolutely nothing! Well, Notoes and her boyfriend newly dubbed "Nofingers" were gonna meet us there for the day, so I started off my cosplay with my Kazehiko plush she made me instead of Randy. Kazehiko doesn't travel so well though...so, Urd-chan and I hurried off to find them. I greeted them than rushed back off to the room and swapped plushies out. After that, Himecchi and I went outside to do like a two hour or so photoshoot in various places with our costumes. We met with Urd-chan and the others in the lobby after awhile and ate in the little sitting area they had there. Himecchi was tired so she went to nap and I ended up spending a lot of time with the rest of the people. First we hit the dealer's room and I ended up getting two other HunterXHunter pendants they had in there, lol. In fact, with the set of dogtags I got, the only one I don't have is Leorio...which is the only one I wouldn't want. Lol. Over the course of the weekend, people kept asking me if I was dressed from Code Geass and I was finally able to figure out who it was. This girl in the Dealer's room who asked me the same thing had just bought a set of figures. Apparently, the character Kallen from CG has a similar design...I can see where they got it, but at the same time, there are also major differences. It was interesting though. After that, we got in line and watched part of the Seiyuu Concert. I wasn't in there for very long though before Himecchi texted me. So, I ran out to hang with her instead. Nothing much was going on after that except for cosplay, so after discussing it, we decided to go out as a group and eat at a Japanese restaurant instead. It was one of those teppanyaki places. The food was good and we had fun, lol. Of course, going in cosplay to a mall restaurant is ALWAYS fun. We got back late and hung around in the lobby for a very short time just chatting. I FINALLY saw Oryen and was able to talk to her for a bit but she had places to be and we ended up going to the room. I worked on Zos Kias for a bit and then went to bed.
Sunday- Costume: Natasha (Zos Kias) Panels: Full Metal Alchemist, MAR I had planned on sleeping til 8 or 8:30 since there was no hurry to do anything and my first panel wasn't until 1...but, because things are always so great, the fire alarm in the hotel went off, again, at 7 or so in the morning. We were on the 8th floor and ushered down all those flights of stairs and outside, still half asleep. After far too long, my mother called the hotel to learn it was due to a power outage (which, we later learned hit some other hotels in the area, too). We started back up once the alarm stopped, but at about floor 5 they tried to make us go down again because the "all-clear" hadn't gone off yet. Fortuantely, it went off right after. So, we hiked back up the rest of the way and went back to bed. I ended up only sleeping til like 8:45, so it wasn't long...but, still. We took our stuff down to the van, and though it wasn't necessary, we did it in two trips. We got bagels and sat around eating them, just blowing off time. We went back to the dealer's room and this time...I got a t-shirt (Zelda) and the Star Ocean GBA game...maaan, I spent soo much money this con. I mean, still, it was like under $100, which is pretty small for people, but for me, it is a lot. Especially considerng I'm out of work for the summer. Well, at least I should have a couple commissions coming in...and I need to sell off some other things, too. We'll see what happens. Well, after the dealer's room, we waited some more and finally it was time for the panels, which happened to be back-to-back. I ended up cutting the second one short since there were so few people who showed up and we talked about everything they had in regards to questions. Then, finally, at like 3 pm, we headed home. The drive back was pretty uneventful and we got back at like 7 am. Then, I went to bed when we got back and slept til noon...fell down the stairs, after an hour managed to get myself stable enough to take a shower, and we finished off our day with the Indiana Jones movie. Right now, I'm just chilling out and eating watermelon...still waiting on Zos Kias, lol.
Now for the final verdict on the con! I give it...a 5/10! Whoa, why did it get that high!? I actually had a blast, lol. It's been my first time in a while I've been able to relax that much...though I mess the stress of AA. The venue was odd, but not horrible (though the way it was split was annoying). The tent outside I didn't like at all, but I only went into it for registration, so it wasn't a problem for me. I wish there was more autograph sessions for the guests that didn't have one, but I did get alot anyways (I had nothing better to do). The time of our Sunday panels was awkward, like usual, but the turnout wasn't too bad considerng everything. Parking is still a pain there, but the venue is changing next year, so hopefully it will be better then. I didn't like the way they handled AA, but there have been worst. I also don't like that they don't comp badges for panelists...considerng nearly ever other con does it. But, all in all, the con itself wasn't horrible and I had fun!
Con pictures will be up shortly, after I do Zos Kias. Ciao~! |
